Paul W. Potter 1944-2018
Paul Potter was raised in a public housing project in Detroit. He was self-educated and started working at age 14. Paul was called to serve his country in 1967 as a 9th Division Infantryman in Vietnam and earned a Combat Infantryman Badge. He also served at the US Maximum Security Agency in Korea. After the war his dedication to his brothers and sisters in the armed services continued and shaped his legacy.
Several veteran's organizations benefited from Paul's voice and experience. He was appointed by Governor Snyder to the Michigan Veteran's Facility Authority Board, was a past member of the State of Michigan Veteran's Board of Managers, was Chairman of the Kent County Veteran's Board, and President of the West Michigan Alliance for Veterans. Paul received the Fox 17 Veteran of the Year award in 2017. He graciously accepted the award on behalf of countless veterans' organizations and volunteers who support those that have served our country. As president of the West Michigan Alliance for Veterans Paul felt every decision must start with "What is best for the veteran," and end with, "What is best for the veteran." We continue his passion to support veterans and their families. |
